Time 15:15 Tuesday Just about to make a 70 mile round trip to Edinburgh ,get phone call, Automated message to say the Gig has been Postponed..Not a Happy Bunny..supposedly going to Glasgow on Wednesday..If that is Postponed as well, there will be a lot of Enemy merchandise on Ebay on the Thursday...I am Fucking livid, I took time off work to attend these two Gigs..there better be a credible excuse other than a Effing hangover scenario..& I think that the band should apologise on this site to all the Fans that are let down once again:angry:

Here is the official video for The Enemy's 'Be Somebody', the black and white video has Tom, Liam and Andy returning to their roots in Coventry. Filmed at the Ricoh Arena, the video captures the live performance and goes backstage with the lads while they were on tour.

Be Somebody is released on September 28 and more details will follow.

The Enemy have a future chart hit on their hands with 'Be Somebody' from the album 'Music For The People'. Tom Clarke has described the song as the most upbeat track on the new album and a sequel to XTC's 'Making Plans For Nigel'.

So robmacca set about making a fun video this week in celebration of his 1,000,000th YouTube viewer and the release of 'Music For The People'. The song is more infectious than swine flu, even though the video is not professional - it is just a stop gap until the official video for 'Be Somebody' is made.

Hey... I've recently started listening to Music For The People and its GREAT. I know you guys have released We'll Live And Die In These Towns on vinyl so i think you should release Music For The People on vinyl!
PLEASE! it would be great! Because you brought out No Time For Tears the single on vinyl so i dont see why u don't bring this great new album out on vinyl!

Music For The People is released on April 27th but faces competition from Bob Dylan, Morrissey's new releases while Lady Ga Ga, Kings of Leon and Lily Allen ride high in the album chart.

We'll Live And Die In These Towns sold 39,191 in it's first week and went to #1 in July 2007. Music For The People will need to sell around 45,000 copies if it is to get to #1, Lady Ga Ga sold 44,978 albums and Doves sold 44,974. Bat For Lashes sold 22,461 to enter the charts at #5 the other week.

The opening, ‘Elephant Song’ is a giant leap in the right direction – sweeping up the loose ends from Oasis’s ‘Swamp Song’ and turning it into a truly grand opening track. ‘No time for Tears’ follows and it's immediately clear this was the right choice for their lead off single with pounding drums and balls-out vocals. So far, so invincible still. Elsewhere, ‘Be Somebody’ pisses all over Kings of Leon’s track of the same name with its anthemic pianos and walls of guitar – it's three minutes of class and perhaps the band’s poppiest moment yet.

But for some reason this album falls from grace spectacularly when the Enemy forget their roots. ‘51st State’ is a meagre attempt at a rock song, while ‘Don’t break the red tape’ mirrors the Clash’s ‘London Calling’ with radically different results – no song can recover from a serious mention of ‘Supermarket Sweep’ in my opinion – Dale Winton could sue for defamation.

‘Silver Spoon’ is the weakest track The Enemy have ever written and should not even make this record let alone get the honour of closing it. Unfortunately if you listen to their debut album in comparison with this there’s a distinct and unexplainable loss of quality control. ‘Sing When You’re In Love’, for example, just doesn’t compare to ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns’ unfortunately.

It’s a relief that tracks like ‘Keep Losing’ and ‘Nation of Checkout Girls’ just about manage to balance this album between inspired and awful. The Enemy have clearly set out to make a giant rock record, but unfortunately they’ve only done it 50% of the time and being half way to invincibility leaves you nowhere.[/quote]

BBC Album Review

After the BBC ripped WLADITT to shreds with there album review. I decided to look at MFTP review, but after reading it I decided to venture back and re-read WLADITT review. Here are a few quotes into why WLADITT is a bad album.

"But the overall impression is that a lot of this album is filler from a fairly one-dimensional band"

“Technodanceaphobic”, in trying to get a driving drum beat and riff going, just ends up sounding monotonous"

“Happy Birthday Jane” is almost too dreary to mention."

"You get the feeling that the next cliché about being a wage slave is just round the corner."

"The only subject matter seems to be of everyday sulky teens stuck in tin pot towns and rubbish jobs, with chips the size of Gibraltar on their shoulders"

So if you, as an artist or a producer saw these quotes you'd think right, we must branch out and progress the band and we must have guitar riffs and immense drum beats, of course the songs must be upbeat and we must change the subject matter.

But, according to the BBC you'd be wrong. As this is what the boys have done with Music for the People (every point I mentioned above I think has been approached in MFTP). But, alas, the BBC have moved on and now decided all that stuff isn't cool anymore. Here are some quotes from MFTP review.

"All that work won't necessarily be undone by the release of their terrible second album, but it certainly represents a knockback."

"The aforementioned Elephant Song is half Verve, half Led Zeppelin. No Time For Tears, with its baggy-era drumming and gospel-diva backing vocals"

"...ruined with a string and woodwind section and dramatic backing vocals that..."

Now, I don't work at the BBC but I'd assume they must be a general set of guidelines to follow when reveiwing an album, which no-one seems to be following here accusing one album of lacking something, then saying it's crap in the next album. The reviews are only 2 years apart as well, so not like times have changed and we're in a new generation.

Also I can't see how the BBC can write such a review when The Enemy receive frequent airplay across all their major stations. I usually trust the BBC to bring me good quality in anything they do, but I get the feeling this person maybe half hearted listened to the album then looked at the lyric book to see what dirt he could dig up there.

I cannot believe these lads are from Cov. They are the idols for the young Coventry bands out there and thats what we need. We do not really do well in anything anymore as the speedway and ice hockey we arent as good now and thats when we look at the enemy and are by far the most proud thing to look at for a Cov born and bred lad like myself. The enemy are my favorite band ever and i have had a few popular ones like Cold play and Oasis ( who are obviously touring with Oasis and i will see them both at the Ricoh Arena :D ) No Time for tears is the best song i have ever heard. Relating it to songs like wonderwall... this wipes the floor with it!!! To sum it up ... Your doing Coventry proud and the main reason is because your staying as Coventry kids and not turning into 'Celebrities' who dont give two f***s. The Enemy are the best band in the world. Hopefully the sky blues ( ccfc ) can ( eventually ) be the best football team in the world. MFTP - First Impressions?

Music For The People has been landing through the letter boxes over the past few days and it would be good to know what YOU think of the new album................

I waited until my CD arrived yesterday before hearing the full album, there is something special about waiting and having your own physical copy of an album. Before I heard it, I'll be honest - I had reservations that it could ever live up to WLADITT.

Yet, having listened to MFTP several times on my post round this morning, my reservations disappeared and made way for joy as I soaked up the lyrics and various styles within the album. Strong songs with equally strong lyrics, you could already imagine singing along at the next tour.

The video to 'No Time For Tears' has been 'banned' from music channels like VH1 and 4 Music as The Official UK Top 40 programme refused to show The Enemy video because it "was not suitable for the whole family", according to the presenter.

Not sure if anyone's ever posted something like this, but.... I really urge the enemy release an unplugged album, I know their are tracks on theB-sides that does this but it would be absoloutly amazing if they re-released 'we'll live and die in these towns,' completely unplugged experiementing with just piano like they did with 'happy birthday jane,' but to own a whole album of this content would be amazing.

Im probabaly pushing my luck now but a set in the coventry kasbah's beer garden for the acoustic thing they have now on a saturday night would complete this wish very much so... sorry to peeps who dont live here but it really is like a huge dream in which i long to see. Anyone else agree with any of this?????

No Time For Tears Sold................

Charting at #16, No Time For Tears sold 12,606 copies. Singles have increased in sales by 33.56% year on year as people download individual album tracks and may have had an effect on the final chart position for The Enemy.

We can all be proud of the amount of copies sold - based on last year, those sales figures would have meant The Enemy scored another Top 10 hit.

Calvin Harris (#1) sold 62,012, Eminem (#8) sold 26,166, and Patti LuPone (#45) sold 4,987 by way of comparison.

Hi,

Okay i got the date wrong but would'nt everyone have assumed Monday would have been the actual day???? Doors open at 8.00am buy the single and get a wristband to return at 5pm to meet the lads. i would advise to get there at about 7-ish to avoid dissapointment.........i just hope i can get the day off or my shift pattern is 'The Enemy' friendly. ;)
